Unica (Brazilian Sugarcane Industry and Bioenergy Association) is the representative body of a wide group of companies that produce sugar, ethanol and bioelectricity in the Center-South region of Brazil.
Following sectorial deregulation in Brazil, in 1997 several sectoral organizations in the state of São Paulo decided to merge. The association aims to promote and defend the interests of sugar, ethanol and bioelectricity producers, not only in Brazil but at a global scale.
Unica is governed by a Deliberative Council, composed by member company representatives, as well as a team of experienced, dedicated, full-time executives, specialists and technical advisors. UNICA provides technical expertise in the areas of environment, energy, technology, international trade, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, regulation, economics and communication.
At the end of 2007, Unica opened its first international office in the United States, subsequently followed by a European office in 2008. Our international representatives provide tquality information on the sector’s important socioeconomic and environmental contributions to a wide range of stakeholders including governments, NGOs, business, consumers and the media.
