In 2008, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) and UNICA announced, through the Brazilian Sugarcane Ethanol partnership, a strategy to promote the image of sugarcane and bioenergy products abroad, especially Brazilian ethanol, as a clean and renewable energy source. In 2023, the two entities renewed once more the partnership, which establishes shared investments.
This sectoral project aims to influence the image-building process of ethanol and other sugarcane and corn derivatives among key global opinion makers—governments and the media, as well as trading companies, potential investors and importers, NGOs, and consumers.
This initiative strengthens the potential of the ethanol program by diversifying the product mix, reducing dependence on oil, balancing the market, and generating jobs and income for farmers. Furthermore, it contributes to improving air quality and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
UNICA also works to promote increased access for Brazilian sugar to various markets, in addition to working together with other sectoral agribusiness projects to promote the entire sugar-energy sector chain, including sugarcane suppliers, agricultural and industrial research and development centers, suppliers of machinery, equipment, and inputs in general, trading companies, logistics, and various service providers.
