The Bioelectricity Certification Program – the first initiative in Brazil dedicated exclusively to electricity generated from sugarcane biomass – aims to promote and expand the role of bioelectricity within the national energy matrix.

Launched in 2015, the program was developed by the Brazilian Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Association (UNICA) in partnership with the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE in Protuguese) and is supported by the Brazilian Association of Energy Traders (ABRACEEL in Portuguese).

As part of the program, the Green Energy Seal can be awarded to energy traders operating in any Brazilian state who purchase electricity from certified renewable bioelectricity producers and comply with the criteria defined in the Program’s General Guidelines.
